Marblehead Public Schools will reinstate athletics and extracurriculars as teacher strikes drag on, the district reported Thursday, allowing this weekend’s high school football playoff game

Marblehead parents have filed a petition in Lawrence District Court for an injunction that would allow previously scheduled athletic events and extracurriculars to continue during the strike.

Teacher strikes in Gloucester and Beverly reached their fourth day of missed school Thursday, while Marblehead teachers were out for a third school day, after days of bargaining and mediation so far have failed to produce a deal in any of the three districts.

Educators are pushing for better pay and other benefits, but their school committees argue these strikes are illegal in Massachusetts.

While the three strikes are separate, some of the sticking points have been the same — as they have in a recent wave of other teacher strikes across the state.
